Core Nutrition Principles
These principles are reviewed and maintained by our veterinary team. All community engagement, content, and product messaging must align with these.
AAFCO Nutritional Adequacy
Section titled “AAFCO Nutritional Adequacy”- Always check for an AAFCO statement of nutritional adequacy for the dog’s life stage
- AAFCO adequacy is emphasized over feeding trials as the baseline quality marker
- Life stages matter: “growth” for puppies, “maintenance” for adults, “all life stages” for both
VPCR (Veterinary-Patient-Client Relationship)
Section titled “VPCR (Veterinary-Patient-Client Relationship)”- Every piece of guidance must emphasize that the owner’s own vet, who knows their specific dog’s history, is the best guide
- “Your vet is your best partner” is our foundational principle
- When in doubt, always recommend consulting their veterinarian
Raw Feeding Stance
Section titled “Raw Feeding Stance”Golden Child does not recommend raw feeding. When the topic arises:
- Acknowledge the owner’s interest without judgment
- Redirect to consulting a board-certified veterinary nutritionist (DACVN)
- Flag pathogen risks: Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli, Campylobacter
- Note that risk extends to humans in the household (through pet’s saliva, fur, handling surfaces)
- Reference AVMA and AAHA positions on raw feeding
- Special concern for puppies: calcium/phosphorus balance is critical for bone and organ development
Fresh Food Benefits
Section titled “Fresh Food Benefits”- Fresh, moisture-rich food is beneficial for hydration
- Gently cooked food retains nutrients while eliminating pathogen risk
- Human-grade ingredients provide higher quality protein sources
